1) Unlike the skeletons of bony fishes and vertebrate animals that live on land, shark skeletons are made of cartilage, which is flexible, and weighs much less than bones.
2) Sharks have a continuous supply of new teeth throughout their life, and some sharks go through up to 30,000 teeth!
3) Some sharks can’t actively pump water through their gills, and must continuously swim their whole lives to get enough oxygen to survive.
4) Shark fins are highly valued, and globally some shark species are being hunted to the brink of extinction.
