Do you know what animal became extinct on the 7th September, 1932? It was the last known Tasmanian Tiger, the world’s largest joey-carrying carnivore of modern times, which died in Beaumaris Zoo in Hobart, Tasmania.
While this is a reminder of the irreversible loss of an iconic Australian animal, today we are still at risk of losing one in three species globally from extinction according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Every day our keepers share simple actions in their fascinating keeper talks and shows that can help you make a big difference for wildlife.
To mark National Threatened Species Day, our zoo keepers have put together a video of five simple actions you can take that will really help our remarkable wildlife.
If you can commit to one of these actions, join our zookeepers this week and wear a bright pledge badge to show how you are making a difference.
